With a background in carpentry, John received his journeyman certification in 1995, and worked his way up to partner with a company in Vancouver BC. After his first child was born John moved to the beautiful Sunshine Coast, and in 2003 he started his own construction business doing custom homes and renovations. An artist at heart, John loves doing custom details so, when a customer requested a specially designed cedar shingle wall John jumped at the opportunity. That first design was just the beginning.
Inspired by experiences living in the Northwest Territories and various places on the West Coast of British Columbia, John has manifested his love of native wild life and scenery using the medium of cedar shingles. Through complex layering and the natural, subtle colour variations of the shingles he is able to create beautiful animals and scenes that are incorporated directly into the siding of a building or separately as a panel.
His repertoire includes wild life such as orcas, humpback whales, herons, seagulls, eagles, bears, salmon and even a hummingbird. One of his wall murals depicts a black bear catching salmon in a stream, and another, in the form of a panel at the Gibsons Visitor Information Park, has a lighthouse with orcas frolicking in the waves, seagulls flying overhead and the coastal mountains in the background. As well as designs that can be integrated into your siding, or framed separately as an interior or exterior wall panel, you can have fence panels, gates or privacy screens customized to suit your specific interests and tastes. This is that unique touch that you’ve been looking for.
